A concession is a brand’s shop inside somebody else’s store — and that means two sets of rules to satisfy. Your brand guidelines say how it should look; the host retailer’s guidelines say what you are actually allowed to fit, when, and how it must come off again. Installing well means respecting both.
Why concessions are their own discipline
Department stores control the trading floor tightly. There are approved contractor lists, fixed delivery windows, restrictions on fixings and rules about what may touch shared walls, floors and glazing. A brand cannot simply send an installer in on a Tuesday morning and start work.
What usually has to be agreed first
- Access windows — most work is overnight or before opening.
- Approved methods — removable fixings, and no damage to host surfaces.
- Insurance and RAMS submitted to the store, not just the brand.
- Delivery routing — goods-in slots and lift access booked in advance.
- Reinstatement — how the space is returned at the end of the concession.
Leave no trace
Concession space is temporary by nature, so everything should be specified for clean removal from day one — removable adhesives, no permanent fixings into shared surfaces, and materials that lift without marking. Damage discovered at handover comes straight back to the brand as a charge.
