How Much Does POS Installation Cost?

There is no single price for POS installation. Each project is quoted on the number of sites, how much is fitted at each, when the work happens and how easy the sites are to access. A single-store window graphic and a hundred-store overnight rollout are very different jobs, so it pays to understand what drives the number.

This guide explains the factors that shape a POS installation quote, how the quoting process works, and how to compare quotes from different installers fairly.

What drives the cost of POS installation?

Installation cost is mostly a function of time, people and logistics. Anything that adds hours on site, extra team members or extra travel affects the quote. The table below sets out the main factors.

FactorWhy it affects the quoteHow to keep it under control
Number of locationsEach site means travel, set-up and sign-offGroup nearby sites and give the full list up front
Volume per siteOne window graphic takes far less time than a full store refreshDefine the scope for each site clearly
TimingOvernight, weekend and out-of-hours work carries a premiumOnly specify out of hours where trading requires it
AccessWork at height, restricted loading and permits all add timeShare access rules and photographs early
Surface and complexityCurved, textured or cold surfaces need more preparationAgree materials with your printer and installer before print
Removal of old graphicsTaking graphics off and cleaning surfaces is a separate taskState whether removal is needed at each site
Travel and logisticsDistance and, for European work, accommodation and coordinationPlan routes and cluster visits by region
ReportingPhotographic sign-off and compliance reports take time to produceAgree the reporting format at the start

Why does out-of-hours installation cost more?

Overnight and weekend working costs more because the hours themselves cost more to staff. For most retailers, though, it is still the cheaper option overall. Closing a store or blocking part of the shop floor during trading usually costs more in lost sales than the premium for working out of hours. Our guide to out-of-hours retail installation covers how those visits are planned.

How does the quoting process work?

A reliable quote comes from a clear brief and, for anything beyond a simple job, a survey. The usual sequence is:

  1. Brief: you share the site list, scope per site, live date, access details and photographs.
  2. Consultation: the installer asks questions to fill any gaps and flags anything likely to affect time on site.
  3. Initial quote: a price based on the information available, with any assumptions clearly stated.
  4. Site survey: sites are measured and checked for surfaces, access and constraints.
  5. Confirmed quote: the price is firmed up against the real conditions.

UK Install offers a free consultation and no-obligation quotes, so there is no cost to finding out what your project involves.

Why does a site survey produce a firmer price?

Quotes given from a drawing or a description are estimates. Quotes given after a site survey are firmer, because the real measurements, surfaces and access constraints are known. The survey also catches problems that would otherwise surface on the night, such as a window larger than the artwork, a damaged wall, or a centre that only allows access at certain times.

On a multi-site programme this matters a great deal. Surveying each store format before artwork goes to print is the difference between a fixed budget and a series of variations on the final invoice.

How do multi-site rollouts change the cost picture?

Rollouts introduce costs that single-site jobs do not have: coordinating many store contacts, scheduling synchronised installs, packing and routing graphics per store, and compiling reports for every location. Good planning brings efficiencies too. Clustering stores by region, standardising artwork sizes by store format and using one project manager as a single point of contact all reduce wasted time. Our retail rollout service and multi-site rollout guide explain how these programmes are run.

How should you compare POS installation quotes?

Two quotes for the same job can look very different simply because they include different things. Before comparing the totals, check each quote against this list:

  • Removal of existing graphics and cleaning of surfaces.
  • Out-of-hours or overnight working where required.
  • Access equipment for work at height.
  • Waste and packaging disposal.
  • Risk assessments and method statements for landlords and centres.
  • Photographic sign-off and completion reporting.
  • Public liability insurance at a level your landlords will accept.

A lower number that leaves these out rarely saves money. It usually moves the cost to a later invoice or a return visit. Insurance deserves particular attention, because a landlord refusing access on the night is one of the most expensive delays of all. UK Install carries £10m public liability insurance.

If your project also includes window, wall or floor vinyl, our guide to vinyl graphics installation cost covers the factors specific to vinyl work.

Frequently asked questions

How much does POS installation cost?

It depends on the number of sites, the volume of POS at each, the working hours required, site access and whether old graphics need removing. UK Install provides free, no-obligation quotes for projects of any size.

Is a site survey chargeable?

Site surveys are not normally included in the installation quote. They are usually priced separately, and we confirm the survey cost with you before booking it. The survey is what turns an estimate into a firm price. For large multi-site programmes, surveys are scheduled in advance so every location has confirmed measurements before anything goes to print.

Does overnight installation cost more?

Out-of-hours work carries a premium, but it usually costs far less than closing a store or disrupting trade during opening hours.

Can I get a quote without final artwork?

Yes. A site list and scope per site is enough for an initial quote. The price is then confirmed once sites are surveyed and sizes are agreed.

Why do installation quotes vary so much?

Quotes often differ in what they include, such as removal, out-of-hours working, access equipment, reporting and insurance. Compare the scope line by line before comparing totals.
